Wall paintings in the Church of St Breaca, Breage near Helston

Liberty Grey

The church in Breage is decorated with wall-paintings dating from the time of its construction in around 1456. The two best preserved figures are St Christopher, with a mermaid at his feet, and a bleeding 'Sabbath Christ' painted as a warning to Sabbath-breakers, and seen surrounded by workers' tools.
